Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for the Platform Payments team. You will define the technical vision for fiat movement across 50+ countries, architecting high-availability, low-latency services and leading large cross-team initiatives.

You will mentor senior engineers, set financial-accuracy standards, and collaborate with risk, regulatory, and product teams to optimize performance and cost efficiency. This role is remote-first with quarterly in-person surges.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Money-movement architecture experience including rails, routing, and high-volume payments.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and drive cross-functional initiatives.
• Ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs to executives and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the multi-quarter technical strategy for Payments spanning rails, orchestration, and transfers to support growth.
• Architect and evolve the core Payments platform for high availability, low latency, and cost efficiency at global scale.
• Lead end-to-end design and rollout of large cross-team initiatives with clear milestones.
• Set and enforce technical standards for financial correctness across Payments, including idempotency, reconciliation and auditability.
• Partner with FinHub, Payments Risk, Regulatory Platform, and Product to balance experience, risk controls, compliance and unit economics.
• Provide deep technical mentorship to senior engineers across Payments pods.
