Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Platform Payments team to define the engineering vision for fiat movement across 50+ countries. You will own the multi-quarter technical strategy, architect for global scale, and drive improvements that impact payment success, latency, and cost.

You'll lead end-to-end design of large initiatives, set standards for financial correctness, and mentor engineers while partnering with FinHub, Payments Risk, and Product to balance experience

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Expertise in backend programming (Go, Java, Python) and cloud-native architecture.
• Money-movement systems experience including PSPs, ISO 20022, routing, and ledgering.
• Proven track record delivering highly available, high-performance systems.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and mentoring engineers.
• Strong ability to communicate complex tradeoffs to executives and stakeholders.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-quarter strategy for Payments spanning rails, orchestration, and transfers.
• Architect core Payments platform for high availability, low latency, and cost efficiency.
• Lead end-to-end design and rollout of large cross-team initiatives with clear milestones.
• Set and enforce technical standards for financial correctness across Payments.
• Partner with FinHub, Payments Risk, Regulatory Platform, and Product on cohesive architectures.
• Provide deep technical mentorship to senior engineers across Payments pods.
