Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for the Platform Payments team. You will shape the engineering vision for fiat flows across 50+ countries, owning multi-quarter strategy and global-scale services that power every customer payment experience.

You will mentor senior engineers, set financial correctness standards, and collaborate with Risk, Regulatory, and Product to balance user experience with controls and unit economics.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Deep money-movement architecture experience including PSPs and ISO 20022.
• Proven track record designing highly available, high-performance systems.
• Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives and mentoring.
• Strong ability to communicate complex tradeoffs to executives and teams.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive multi-quarter technical strategy for Payments across rails and transfers.
• Architect the core Payments platform for high availability, low latency, and scale.
• Lead end-to-end design of large cross-team initiatives with clear milestones.
• Set technical standards for financial correctness across payments.
• Partner with FinHub, Payments Risk, Regulatory, and Product to align architecture and economics.
• Mentor senior engineers to raise system design quality and maintainability.
