Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for Core Infrastructure in Menlo Park, CA. You will own architectural evolution across service mesh, compute platform, and Terraform provisioning to enable multi-region expansion.

This role emphasizes leadership in cross-functional architecture and hands-on coding in Go or Python. The role is based in Menlo Park with in-person presence required at least 3 days per week and comes with substantial equity and bonus

Qualifications

• Kubernetes internals including API server, etcd, and scheduler concepts.
• Istio/Envoy source-level knowledge, including xDS protocol, and control/data planes.
• Understanding HTTP/2 and gRPC wire-level behavior and observability.
• Terraform at scale including modules, providers, and multi-region provisioning.
• Proficiency in Go or Python for infra tooling with solid testing and ops.
• Experience driving cross-functional architectural changes across large teams.

Responsibilities

• Own service mesh architecture end-to-end and evolve deployment for multi-region operation.
• Define long-term Kubernetes compute platform strategy including cluster lifecycle and scheduling.
• Redesign Terraform-based infrastructure provisioning to enable rapid region provisioning and autonomy.
• Diagnose issues at Kubernetes API machinery, etcd, Envoy xDS, and Terraform provider layers; contribute upstream as appropriate.
• Lead architecture proposals, reviews, and cross-functional alignment impacting all engineering teams.
