Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Staff Software Platform Engineer in Bellevue to design, build, and evolve our foundational platform for large-scale services. You will focus on AWS networking, Kubernetes on EKS, and a robust Istio service mesh to enable secure, reliable, and fast service-to-service communication across our platform.

You will lead platform standards for HTTP/REST and gRPC APIs, write automation in Python and Go, and manage Terraform-based IaC.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS networking Fundamentals (VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, NLB/ALB, PrivateLink, NAT, DNS).
• Strong Kubernetes (K8s) and AWS EKS operations at scale.
• Strong understanding of HTTP/REST and gRPC; performance and backward compatibility.
• Istio service mesh expertise; Envoy experience is a plus.
• Excellent traffic troubleshooting across L3–L7; DNS/TLS/MTLS awareness.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical strategy and execution for platform networking and service communication across multi-tenant EKS environments.
• Design and operate resilient Istio topologies including mTLS, policies, ingress/egress, and observability.
• Define and implement platform standards for APIs (HTTP/REST and gRPC) and versioning.
• Build automation and tooling in Python and Go to improve velocity and safety.
• Create and maintain Terraform IaC modules, pipelines, and guardrails for scalable infra.
• Partner with security, networking, and apps teams to drive end-to-end solutions.
• Provide technical leadership: roadmaps, success metrics, de-risk projects, mentor engineers.
