Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead a spacecraft mechanical team through design, analysis, and flight hardware development. You will own mechanical interfaces, thermal architecture, and environmental qualification for satellite programs, while guiding a cross-functional team across GNC, EPS, CDH, and RF groups.

The role requires a BS/MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 12+ years in satellite structures and at least 5 years in leadership.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
• 12 years of experience in satellite structures and mechanisms design.
• 5+ years of leading technical teams.
• Flight mission contributions and ownership of full mechanical cycles.
• Experience with interfaces, cross-functional alignment, and test readiness.
• Hands-on experience with AI&T and environmental testing campaigns.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers across mechanical design, packaging, and interfaces.
• Direct concept through space flight design, trade studies, and block diagrams.
• Collaborate with GNC, EPS, CDH, Payload, RF, Systems, and AI&T teams.
• Present engineering designs to customers and executives; part of proposals.
• Ensure manufacturability, testability, and reliability of hardware.
• Mentor and grow junior engineers within the spacecraft team.
