Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own mechanical aspects of spacecraft through all development stages. You will lead concepts, analyses, and interfaces, and work closely with the space systems team to drive architecture trades, packaging, and qualification for satellite programs.

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience with CAD/FEA tools, thermal management, and aerospace materials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
• Minimum 6 years of spacecraft mechanical engineering experience including electronics packaging, thermal, shock, vibration, stress dynamics, and cost.
• Experience with architectural trade studies and parametric analysis.
• Proficiency with professional mechanical and FEA CAD tools (Ansys Mechanical, SolidWorks Simulation, Thermal Desktop).
• Experience with CNC manufacturing and GD&T.
• Experience with advanced aerospace manufacturing and materials like sandwich panels and carbon composites.
• Proficiency in detailed mechanical design (3D CAD, drawings).
• Experience designing and manufacturing mechanisms and actuators.
• Experience with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
• Familiarity with spacecraft thermal architectures and launch/LEO environments.
• Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical designs from concept through spaceflight.
• Perform architecture trades and block diagrams.
• Conduct mechanical and thermal analyses for packaging and interfaces.
• Develop testing, qualification plans and verification strategies.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and program management to ensure timely launches.
