Job summary

Tem is hiring a Senior Staff Engineer for the Payments squad within Saldo, our Billing and Payments Service. You will be the first technical lead in the squad, owning delivery, coding, design decisions, and setting technical direction as we scale the payments platform.

You’ll write design docs, review code, and drive cost-to-process down while guiding both senior and junior engineers toward high performance and reliable systems.

Qualifications

• Track record as a tech lead owning squad outcomes.
• Experience writing design docs, reviewing PRs and ADRs.
• Ability to balance hands-on work with coaching juniors.
• Experience designing team processes from scratch.
• Experience owning cross-team sequencing and dependencies.

Responsibilities

• Own the squad's delivery and standards.
• Write specs and design docs; review ADRs and PRs.
• Set payments architecture direction.
• Cut cost-to-process and improve payment efficiency.
• Define squad operating model and pacing.
• Manage sequencing and dependencies; ensure visibility.
• Coach junior engineers; tackle hard problems with the team.
• Flag promotions and hiring gaps; participate in people decisions.
