Job summary
OpenAI is seeking a Staff+ Software Engineer for Payments & Billing within Consumer Monetization in San Francisco. You will evolve billing, subscriptions, and payment capabilities, ensuring correctness, reliability, and scalable design across internal systems and external providers.
You will work hands-on while guiding architecture, collaborating with Product, Finance, and Engineering to balance rapid delivery with long-term platform investments.
Responsibilities
- Architect and build shared services and APIs for billing, subscription, and payment capabilities.
- Design lifecycle orchestration and state synchronization across internal services and external providers.
- Address correctness and recovery in asynchronous events and retries.
- Improve payment success through processor integrations and routing strategies.
- Collaborate with risk teams to prevent abuse while keeping customers satisfied.
- Develop testing, observability, and operational tooling for reliability.
- Lead initiatives from design through rollout and ongoing operation.
- Partner with Product, Finance, Operations and Engineering for balance between launch speed and platform maturity.
- Provide technical leadership through hands-on development and reviews.
