Job summary

the company in San Francisco seeks experienced Staff+ engineers to evolve billing, subscriptions, and payments capabilities across products. You will tackle complex problems requiring correctness, reliability, and flexible design, and drive architecture while staying hands-on in delivery.

You will lead lifecycle orchestration, state synchronization across internal services and external providers, and implement robust testing and observability.

Qualifications

• Experience leading backend or distributed systems in production.
• Staff level ownership shaping architecture.
• Ability to design for correctness, reliability, and failure recovery.
• Experience with external provider integrations and complex dependencies.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build shared services and APIs for billing, subscription and payment.
• Design lifecycle orchestration and state synchronization across services and vendors.
• Address correctness, recovery, retries, and reconciliation.
• Improve payment resilience via processor integrations and routing.
• Collaborate with risk teams to prevent abuse while preserving user experience.
• Develop testing, observability, and ops tooling for failures.
• Lead initiatives from design through rollout and ongoing operation.
• Balance launch needs with long-term platform investments with cross‑functional teams.
• Provide technical leadership through hands-on dev, design reviews, and mentoring.
