Job summary

tem is hiring a Senior Staff Engineer for the Payments squad within Saldo, our Billing and Payments Service. You will be the first tech lead in the squad, owning delivery outcomes, setting technical direction, and driving architecture for scalable payments.

You’ll write design docs, review code, and help resolve blockers while coaching junior engineers and aligning with senior staff. Remote-first, with flexible hours and a focus on cost-to-process optimization.

Qualifications

• Track record as a tech lead owning squad delivery and standards.
• Experience writing design docs and reviewing PRs/ADRs while setting direction.
• Ability to balance hands-on work with coaching junior engineers and maintaining quality and speed.
• Experience designing team ways of working from scratch with speed, quality and resilience.
• Experience owning cross-team sequencing and dependencies and diagnosing throughput issues.
• Comfort cutting through ambiguity to set technical direction and remove blockers.

Responsibilities

• Own the squad's delivery and the standards it works to, shipping work we’re proud of.
• Lead from the front: write specs/design docs, review PRs/ADRs, solve problems hands-on.
• Set payments architecture direction toward growth and scalability.
• Cut cost-to-process by improving payment accuracy and processing efficiency.
• Define the squad’s operating model and pace, not just follow a playbook.
• Own sequencing and dependencies; diagnose throughput issues and keep stakeholders informed.
• Build a high-performance team by coaching juniors and defining success criteria.
• Partner on people decisions with manager and raise promotion/hiring considerations.
