Job summary

ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer (IC5) to join our Data Platform Engineering group. You will lead design and delivery of shared, multi-tenant platform services running on Kubernetes, including Postgres, queueing, and key-value stores.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong systems expertise and collaboration across teams. You will mentor engineers, drive reliability and performance, and partner with product teams to set SLOs and consumption models.

Qualifications

• 12+ years software development with a relevant degree, or 8+ with a Master's, or 5+ with a PhD.
• 8+ years building production software with distributed systems on Kubernetes at scale.
• Experience delivering shared multi-tenant infrastructure services with HA and DR.
• Deep HA, failover, backup/restore, RPO/RTO, and durability targets.
• Strong system design, tenancy and cost considerations.
• Hands-on with at least one major cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Proficient in Go or other systems language.
• Kubernetes stateful primitives, CI/CD, GitOps, and IaC.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of shared platform services on Kubernetes.
• Act as technical lead on major initiatives with clear designs and targets.
• Define HA, failover, disaster recovery and multi-region architecture.
• Partner with engineers to align with architecture and SLOs.
• Identify risks and drive resolution focusing on reliability and operability.
• Hands-on design, coding, and review of core systems like operators.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers to raise engineering bar.
