Job summary

ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer (IC5) to join our Data Platform Engineering team. You will be a hands-on technical lead responsible for designing and delivering shared, multi-tenant platform services such as Postgres, queues, and key-value stores on Kubernetes, serving product teams across the company.

You will mentor engineers, define high-availability architecture, and partner with senior engineers to align with platform standards.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree
• 8+ years with a Master's degree; or 5+ years with a PhD; or equivalent
• 8+ years building production software with distributed systems
• Led design and delivery of shared, multi-tenant infrastructure services
• Deep HA, failover, backup/restore, RPO/RTO and durability targets
• Strong system design: consistency, partitioning, tenancy, noisy-neighbor mitigation
• Hands-on with at least one major cloud provider (AWS/Azure/GCP)
• Proficient in Go; Kubernetes stateful primitives and GitOps/CI-CD

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of shared platform services (Postgres, queueing/streaming, key‑value stores) on Kubernetes
• Serve as technical lead on major initiatives and translate requirements into architecture
• Define HA, failover, disaster-recovery, and multi-region architecture
• Partner with senior engineers to align work with platform standards and SLAs
• Identify technical risks early and drive resolutions with focus on reliability and operability
• Spend significant time hands-on: design, code, and review core systems
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers and raise engineering standards
