Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking a Senior or Staff BESS Electrical Development Engineer to join an early engineering team focused on battery energy storage systems. You will own the electrical and controls foundation from concept through early design, translating inputs into buildable designs while coordinating with product, business development, and EPC teams.

Responsibilities include developing single-line diagrams, screening studies, and interconnection strategies, with emphasis on NEC/IEEE/NFPA

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering (M.S. a plus) and ABET accreditation or equivalent.
• 5+ years in battery energy storage, solar, or microgrid projects (Senior) or 8+ years (Staff).
• PE License (Electrical) preferred.
• Deep knowledge of grid-scale energy storage, electrical balance-of-plant equipment and interconnection requirements.
• Experience in front-end/conceptual design and owner's engineering for utility-scale projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical and controls front-end scope for early-phase pursuits with cross-functional teams.
• Develop concept designs, site layouts, single-line diagrams, and controls network architecture.
• Perform screening-level power system studies and size major equipment.
• Support interconnection strategy with utilities/ISO/RTO and define design basis.
• Establish Basis of Design, design criteria, and documentation for detailed design handoff.
