Job summary

Redwood Materials in California is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to own the front-end electrical scope of early-phase energy storage projects. You will translate ambiguous inputs into buildable concepts, develop SLDs, and set the Basis of Design to support proposals and a smooth handoff to detailed design.

You will collaborate with Business Development, Product, and EPC teams, screen interconnection viability, and ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE 1547, UL 9540 family codes.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years in solar, energy storage, or microgrid electrical design.
• Deep knowledge of BESS, inverters, transformers, switchgear, and protection.
• Experience with interconnection requirements and utility-scale projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the front-end electrical scope for early-phase pursuits across multi-discipline teams.
• Develop concept designs and single line diagrams aligned with site constraints.
• Establish electrical Basis of Design including AC/DC architecture and grounding.
• Perform screening studies (load flow, short circuit) to size equipment.
• Support interconnection strategy with utilities and grid operators.
• Hone compliance framework per NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL standards.
