Redwood Materials is seeking a Staff BESS Electrical Design Engineer, EPC, to lead electrical engineering for utility-scale lithium-ion battery energy storage projects. You will size layouts, interface with utilities, and drive interconnection studies while ensuring compliance with NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NFPA 855 and related standards.

The role requires an ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree and a Nevada PE or eligibility, with a plan to obtain Nevada and South Carolina

Qualifikationen

• ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree required.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible; must obtain Nevada and South Carolina licenses within 2 months of start.
• Minimum 5 years in solar, energy storage, or microgrid sectors, with at least 3 years focused on BESS design.
• Proven expertise in interconnection and regulatory compliance for BESS systems.
• SME in NEC 705, NEC 706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, and NFPA 855.
• Advanced proficiency with HOMER, ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD/Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and MS Office.
• Preferred proficiency in PSSE/PSLF, PSCAD/EMT, and SEL AcSELerator.
• Knowledge of HVDC systems/converter stations and energy storage use-cases.
• Strong communication, proactive, detail-oriented, and able to mentor others.

Aufgaben

• Lead electrical engineering efforts for utility-scale BESS projects from concept through construction.
• Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies, permitting, and compliance.
• Serve as SME for technical challenges related to BESS.
• Design AC/DC electrical systems for BESS using transformers, inverters, DC combiners, energy managers, and battery modules.
• Develop schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, raceway and grounding plans, and protection strategies.
• Specify and evaluate components such as breakers, contactors, fuses, disconnects, EPO, and metering devices.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, fire & life safety, SCADA/telecom, geotechnical, and DC teams to produce IFC packages.
• Ensure designs comply with NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NFPA 855; lead code reviews.
