Job summary

Agility Robotics seeks a Senior Staff AI Software Engineer, Perception, to own the vision and system architecture for how Digit perceives humans and hazards as it moves from constrained cells to open, dynamic environments. You will define sensing modalities, model design choices, redundancy, and compute budgets to ensure safe, robust operation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in machine learning/perception for robotics and system architecture experience.
• Experience architecting ML/perception for safety-critical or safety-rated contexts.
• Deep expertise in CNNs, tracking, data association, pose estimation, with real-world robustness.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and system architecture for Perception to enable safety and efficiency as Digit expands into open spaces.
• Analyze architectural tradeoffs across sensing modalities, redundancy, and compute budgets for safety and latency.
• Stay hands-on to prototype, validate, or build critical pieces.
• Partner with safety and systems engineering to define the safety case strategy and evidence needs.
• Support failure mode and hazard analysis at the system level.
• Evaluate emerging research and decide what to adopt into future architectures.
• Set standards for ML-based perception verification and validation in safety-critical scenarios.
• Collaborate across navigation, controls, and hardware to serve the whole robot.
• Mentor engineers and present architecture to leadership and customers.
