Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Senior Staff AI Engineer (Remote Eligible) to lead and shape AI infrastructure across the company. You will partner with engineers, researchers, PMs, and product managers to deliver scalable AI-powered products and robust ML platforms.

Responsibilities include designing and deploying AI components, optimizing foundation models, and guiding governance, safety, and observability. This is a senior role with opportunities to mentor teams and influence multi‑year roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 10 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master’s degree in these fields plus at least 8 years of experience.
• At least 10 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team of engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI‑powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training, large language model inference, agents and multi‑agent workflows, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch.
• Invent state‑of‑the‑art foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance, latency, throughput, and cost of large-scale production AI systems.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.
• Define and steer the AI architecture vision, integrating research breakthroughs into production with reliability and scale.
• Lead the establishment of AI performance, safety, and transparency standards across the company.
• Drive multi-year platform initiatives unifying data, compute and model lifecycle management.
• Mentor senior technical leaders across research, data and engineering.
