Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Staff AI Engineer to help build responsible, scalable AI systems and real-time ML applications for customers and associates. This remote-eligible role collaborates with engineers, researchers, PMs, and product teams to deliver AI-powered products across the bank's platforms.

The candidate will drive foundation model work, model optimization and AI governance, while mentoring engineers and shaping Capital One's AI strategy for reliable, high-performance deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS/AI/related fields with strong AI/ML track record.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that change how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training, LLM inference, agents and workflows, similarity search, guardrails, evaluation, governance and observability.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, PyTorch, VectorDBs, and more.
• Invent foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, throughput of large-scale production AI systems.
• Contribute to the long-term AI architecture vision and roadmap for Capital One.
• Define and steer AI architecture vision, integrating breakthroughs into production with reliability and scale.
• Lead the establishment of AI performance, safety, and transparency standards across the company.
• Drive multi-year platform initiatives unifying data, compute and model lifecycle management.
• Mentor senior technical leaders across research, data and engineering, developing the next generation of Capital One's AI leadership.
