Summary: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the General Ledger Accounts, conducting monthly reconciliations, assisting the Controller in Month-end and year end closings, assisting in the annual audit process, and overseeing accounting staff in the absence of the Controller.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm (40 hours per week)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile all cash and loan accounts
  • Reconcile all fixed asset accounts and prepare depreciation entries monthly
  • Conduct general-ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data, and identify and correct errors
  • Prepare and review all prepaid insurance and other pre-paid accounts.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, half-year, and year-end financial closes, including assigned journal entries, balance-sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of operational management accounts
  • Perform designated account reconciliations, including the reconciliation of sub-ledger systems to the general ledger balances.
  • Prepare variance analyses of accounts, account classifications, account groupings/categories for providing a sound and solid understanding of any such variances.
  • Support, respect, and promote an environment which fosters Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging for all employees and people in our services.
  • Remain in compliance with all annual mandatory trainings including FA/CPR training.
  • Assist with the preparation of standard and any special-requested report(s) (balance sheets, income statements, and monthly closing reports) according to certain agreed upon standards, e.g. Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP), IFRS or other regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and analysis for annual audits.
  • Assist with continuous/periodic internal control self-assessment evaluations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
  • A minimum of four years (4) of experience in General Ledger accounting, analysis and reconciliations is required.
  • Non-profit accounting experience is preferred but is not required.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experience with Accounting Software products appropriate to mid-sized companies is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and all other Microsoft desktop applications is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to maintain records accurately and efficiently and be attentive to details.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
