Title: Senior Staff Accountant
Contract to Hire
Payrate: $38/hr -$43/hr
Location: Manhattan, NYC
Onsite 4 days a week, Remote 1 day a week
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff/Mid-Level Accountant to support the Corporate Accounting team. This position will play a key role in the month-end close process, balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger activities, and day-to-day accounting operations.
The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines. This position is based in New York City, NY and will report to the Corporate Accounting Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accounting functions including booking, reconciling, and reporting financial activity.
- Support the month-end close process and ensure assigned closing and reporting deadlines are met.
- Prepare and analyze journal entries related to leases, payroll, reserves, prepaids, deposits, and other areas of accounting.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and perform account fluctuation/flux analysis.
- Monitor and review accounting and system-generated reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and related footnotes for quarterly and annual reporting.
- Collaborate with FP&A, Payroll, and other departments to reconcile actual results with budgets and forecasts.
- Partner with external audit teams and assist with the coordination and administration of external audits.
- Maintain organized, accurate, and complete accounting records, both electronically and in hard copy as needed.
- Provide backup support for month-end responsibilities assigned to other members of the accounting team.
- Identify opportunities to improve and streamline accounting processes and workflows.
- Document accounting policies, procedures, and workflows for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with colleagues and cross-functional partners.
- Mentor and train interns and junior team members as needed.
- Support additional accounting projects and ad hoc requests as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of practical accounting experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience with month-end close processes and journal entry preparation.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, controls, and financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to analyze, manipulate, and reconcile large volumes of data from multiple sources.
- Ability to create ad hoc reports and perform financial analysis.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with SAP and BPC is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
