Job summary
Backblaze is seeking a Senior Manager of Site Reliability Engineering to lead a high-performing team responsible for the stability, scalability, and reliability of production systems. You will drive reliability by advancing observability, automation, and incident response across cross-functional partners, with emphasis on automation, resilience, and performance.
The role requires 10+ years in SRE/related fields, strong Linux automation skills, and proven leadership of large-scale infrastructure.
Qualifications
- 10+ years in site reliability engineering with leadership.
- Experience building and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience leading large-scale production systems.
- Strong knowledge of deploying and managing large fleets of Linux hosts with automation.
- Observability/monitoring tool expertise (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch).
- Storage systems, distributed architectures, and storage algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Hire, lead, mentor, and develop a team of Site Reliability Engineers.
- Define reliability priorities and goals with leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Develop automation to accelerate deployment of storage vaults and infrastructure.
- Own vulnerability management and patching schedules.
- Improve observability, monitoring, and alerting across Backblaze infrastructure.
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident action planning.
- Apply ITIL processes across incident, change, problem, and capacity management.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Customer Success, Product, and Operations for reliable operations.
