Job summary

Maersk in the United States seeks an experienced Senior DBA to shape, automate, and support complex SQL Server environments—on-premises and cloud. You will lead migrations, automate infrastructure as code, monitor health, and build data pipelines using a mix of technologies.

You will work with DevOps, Cloud, and Engineering teams to integrate database provisioning into CI/CD and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for mission-critical systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience administering SQL Server in enterprise environments.
• Solid experience with Grafana and Prometheus for metrics collection, visualization, and alerting.
• Hands-on experience with database migrations and management in Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.
• Extensive ETL/orchestration experience with SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Kafka, and/or Airflow.
• Deep understanding of backup/recovery strategies, high-availability setups, replication, and performance tuning.
• Strong scripting skills - PowerShell, Bash, T-SQL; experience integrating DBA automation in CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve performance and availability issues.
• Effective written and verbal communication, with an emphasis on documentation and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and manage SQL Server platforms including availability groups, replication, mirroring, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Plan and execute migrations to Azure and AWS with minimal downtime.
• Build automated infrastructure with Ansible and Terraform for provisioning DB environments.
• Monitor performance using Prometheus and Grafana; create dashboards and alerts.
• Design and operate ETL pipelines with SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Kafka, and Airflow.
• Automate backups, patching, health checks, and index/statistics maintenance via scripting.
• Troubleshoot deadlocks, hung sessions, bottlenecks, disk I/O, memory/CPU; determine root cause.
• Ensure security: user/role management, encryption at rest/in transit, auditing, compliance.
• Develop runbooks, knowledge base content, playbooks for operations and onboarding.
• Collaborate with DevOps, Cloud, and Engineering to integrate DB provisioning into CI/CD.
• Participate in on-call rotation for 24/7 availability.
