Job summary

The Timberline Group is seeking a SQL Engineer to manage and optimize SQL Server environments, implement geoclustering for DR/BC, and automate DBA tasks using PowerShell or Python. The role covers on‑prem and cloud migrations with emphasis on performance and security.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, monitor performance, and ensure robust backups and recovery strategies while participating in on‑call rotations as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have T-SQL, SQL scripting and Data migration experience.
• Experience with database migration tools and Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.
• Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, or similar languages for DBA tasks and deployments.
• Strong understanding of geoclustering, table locks, and concurrency management.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain SQL Server instances across environments, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
• Implement and support geoclustering solutions for disaster recovery and business continuity.
• Monitor database performance and optimize SQL queries and configurations for efficiency.
• Develop automation scripts to automate routine DBA tasks, deployments, and monitoring.
• Handle table locks and concurrency issues to minimize production impact.
• Plan and execute database migrations and upgrades, including cloud transitions to Azure.
