Job summary

Recru in Houston is seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to manage on‑prem and cloud environments (PostgreSQL, MongoDB) across development, test, production, and disaster recovery. Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands‑on experience as a SQL Server DBA.
• Strong expertise with SQL Server 2016–2022; experience with 2025 is a plus.
• Direct hands‑on experience managing PostgreSQL or MongoDB in production environments.
• Experience with Azure and AWS database services and cloud administration.
• Proficiency with HA technologies including Always‑On Availability Groups and Distributed Availability Groups.
• Experience with SQL Server in virtualized ecosystems (VMware); Zerto familiarity is a plus.
• Strong scripting skills in T‑SQL and PowerShell; exposure to Python and Ansible preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage SQL Server databases across development, test, production, and DR environments.
• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server instances per established standards.
• Administer PostgreSQL environments and support additional RDBMS platforms.
• Perform database backups, restores, disaster‑recovery tests, and capacity/performance monitoring.
• Troubleshoot performance, blocking, connectivity, integrity, and high‑availability issues.
• Support Always‑On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and Distributed Availability Groups.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure reliability, security, and performance.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using T‑SQL, PowerShell, Python, and Ansible.
• Create and maintain administrative scripts for maintenance, monitoring, and workflows.
• Support database deployments across Azure and AWS environments.
• Participate in DevOps pipelines, CI/CD processes, and database automation initiatives.
• Manage incidents, service requests, and change requests via a ticketing system and provide real‑time support for deployments and production issues.
