Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise-level Microsoft SQL Server database environments, including on-premises and Azure platforms.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and database internals.
• Advanced knowledge of Transact-SQL (T-SQL).
• Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and ETL workflows.
• Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines.
• Knowledge of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Backup, and RBAC.
• Experience migrating and integrating databases between on-premises SQL Server and Azure.
• Understanding of Azure database security, networking, scalability, cost optimization, and HA/DR capabilities.
• Experience with performance monitoring and tuning, RBAC, and developer support/code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Database Administration: Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server across environments.
• Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Monitor health, optimize resources, improve indexes, resolve blocking and deadlocks.
• Backup & Disaster Recovery: Design, test backup/recovery incl. Always On, Log Shipping, and clustering.
• Database Architecture: Develop Azure and on-prem DBMS architectures for scalability and performance.
• Security & Compliance: Implement RBAC, manage permissions, encrypt data at rest/in transit.
• Azure Database Management: Administer Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL MI, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
• Developer Support & Code Review: Assist teams with schema, storage, and complex T-SQL.
• Automation & Scripting: Develop T-SQL, PowerShell, scripts for maintenance and reporting.
• Database Monitoring: Use Azure Monitor and Log Analytics for performance and availability.
• Security Tools: Use Entra ID and Key Vault to manage access and secrecy.
• Database Migration & Integration: Support migrations between on-prem and Azure.
• Technical Support: Provide Tier III support and resolve complex issues.
• Documentation: Maintain DB installation/configuration/migrations docs.
• Collaboration: Work with CIO/IT leadership to implement DB solutions.
• Mentoring: Guide peers and junior staff.
