Job summary

University of Colorado Anschutz is seeking a Sponsored Projects Financial Specialist to manage award setup, invoicing, and financial reporting for a diverse portfolio of sponsored projects. This hybrid role supports centralized post-award activities and works with departments and sponsors to ensure compliance and timely grant administration.

The Senior Professional level expects independent operation, participation in improvement projects, and collaboration across the Grants & Contracts office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, public administration, finance, accounting, business administration, business, or a directly related field.
• At least one year of professional grants, contracts, finance, expense/federal reporting or related experience.
• Substitution: a combination of education and related experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Review all awards for terms and conditions, billing, and payment information, reporting requirements, and any other provided information to perform the setup of the award in PeopleSoft/Grants system.
• Communicate with Sponsor if F&A rate or dollars have not been applied correctly.
• Complete monthly and quarterly billing of contracts to create accounts receivable and work with sponsors and departments for invoicing concerns.
• Submit invoices to sponsors according to award/contract requirements.
• Prepare and submit financial reports by the due date including Federal Financial Status Reports and non-Federal Reports of Expenditure.
• Monitor project budgets, indirect cost rates and charges, overspending, fiscal and sponsor compliance.
• Perform close-out activities, ensure revenue reconciliation and final deliverables.
• Monitor reallocation of expenses for compliance with policies and document explanations.
• Investigate sub-award agreements for budget carry forward feasibility and contract language.
• Conduct regular meetings with departments and respond to emails/phone calls from sponsors and PIs.
• Join process improvement work groups with internal and external partners.
