Job summary

Staples is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I to design, configure, and administer the Splunk observability platform across the enterprise. This role focuses on reliable telemetry ingestion and scalable data pipelines in a complex, multi-cloud environment.

The candidate will automate configurations using Python/Bash, collaborate within SAFe practices, and work with Jira/Confluence/ServiceNow to support enterprise workflows. Onsite in Framingham, MA, with a strong cost-performance focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a directly related field.
• 7–10 years of hands-on experience with Splunk including platform configuration, ingestion, routing, and app components.
• Experience managing observability data at scale: data retention, lifecycle, and cost optimization.
• Experience integrating Splunk with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes) and CI/CD tools; deployment tools like Puppet, Ansible; enterprise systems (ServiceNow, PagerDuty).
• Proficiency in scripting/automation (Python, Bash) to support configuration and operations.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and administer the Splunk observability platform for enterprise-scale log and event data management.
• Optimize platform performance, scalability, and cost through data pipelines and governance.
• Integrate observability with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise tools for scalable telemetry.
• Oversee log pipeline design, data retention, lifecycle management, and performance tuning.
• Install, upgrade, and manage Splunk apps and components with roles/access controls.
• Support integration with deployment tools and ITSM systems; APIs for workflows.
• Utilize scripting/automation to enhance configuration and operations.
• Collaborate using SAFe, Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow.
