Staples Advantage Canada in Framingham, MA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I for Observability & Splunk Engineering to design, implement, and support enterprise telemetry across logging, monitoring, and APM platforms.

You will design and administer the Splunk platform, optimize data pipelines and costs, and integrate observability with cloud stacks (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes) and deployment tools in a SAFe environment using Jira/Confluence/ServiceNow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on Splunk experience with platform configuration, data ingestion, and access control.
• Experience integrating Splunk with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Kubernetes) and CI/CD tools.

Responsibilities

The Senior Software Engineer I - Observability & Splunk Engineering is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise observability solutions across logging, monitoring, tracing, and application performance monitoring (APM) platforms. This role will lead large-scale telemetry collection, data pipelines, and observability integrations across cloud and enterprise environments to deliver reliable, actionable insights into system performance and availability.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design, configure, and administer the Splunk observability platform for enterprise-scale log and event data management.
• Optimize platform performance, scalability, and cost by managing data pipelines, implementing automation, and enforcing governance standards.
• Integrate observability capabilities with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise tools to provide consistent, scalable telemetry across Staples systems.
• Oversee log pipeline design and optimization, including data retention, lifecycle management, and performance tuning.
• Install, upgrade, and manage Splunk apps and components while configuring user roles and access controls.
• Support integration with deployment tools (Puppet, Ansible), ITSM systems (ServiceNow, PagerDuty), and APIs for seamless operational workflows.
• Utilize scripting and automation (Python, Bash) to enhance platform configuration and operational efficiency.
• Contribute to projects using SAFe methodology and collaborate via platforms such as Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow.

What You Bring to the Table

• Expertise in log pipeline design and optimization, data retention and lifecycle management, performance tuning, and cost optimization.
• Strong proficiency in integrating Splunk with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise automation tools.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation for platform configuration and operational efficiency.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a directly related field.
• 7+ years of deep hands-on experience with Splunk, including:Platform configuration and administration.Data ingestion and pipeline management (forwarders, inputs, routing, indexing). User, role, and access control configurationInstallation, upgrade, and management of Splunk apps and components
• Strong experience managing observability data at scale, including:
• Log pipeline design and optimization
• Data retention and lifecycle management
• Performance tuning and cost optimization
• Experience integrating Splunk with:
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes)
• CI/CD pipelines and deployment tools like Puppet, Ansible
• Enterprise systems (ITSM, automation, APIs) like ServiceNow, PagerDuty
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash) to support platform configuration and operational efficiency
• Experience working with SAFe methodology and platforms like Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow

What’s Needed – Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting or administering application performance monitoring (APM) and Session Replay platforms such as New Relic, Dynatrace, DataDog, OpenTelemetry, FullStory.
• Familiarity with generative AI and Agentic AI frameworks and platforms.
• Understanding of distributed tracing, APM instrumentation, and integration of metrics and events into observability platforms.
• Experience in multi-platform observability environments, session replay, and site analytics.

The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
