Job summary

Boston Public Schools (BPS) seeks an exceptional Coordinator of Special Education (COSE) to lead, implement and oversee special education programs across schools. The role requires strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and DESE regulations, and a commitment to high expectations and inclusive practice.

Reporting to the OSS Assistant Directors, you will chair IEPs and 504 plans, coordinate services, support teachers, engage families, ensure compliance, and promote culturally competent instruction

Qualifications

• Massachusetts Teaching License in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities or Severe Disabilities) required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of DESE regulations, IDEA, and Section 504.
• IEP development, service coordination and collaboration with families.
• Experience in urban school settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Chair referrals and annual reviews; develop IEPs including transition planning.
• Coordinate continuum of services for students with disabilities and those at risk.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and 504 plan requirements.
• Collaborate with principal, OSS, teachers, and outside agencies to support students with disabilities.
• Engage families as partners in planning and problem-solving.

Education

Massachusetts Teaching License in Special Education

Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field

Experience with IEP process and DESE regulations

Knowledge of IDEA and Section 504

Bachelor degree preferred
