Job summary

Boston Public Schools is seeking a Coordinator of Special Education (COSE) to join Mattahunt Elementary. The role focuses on ensuring FAPE, LRE, and comprehensive SPED services for students with disabilities, while coordinating IEPs, 504 plans, and collaboration with OSS and school leadership.

The COSE will lead professional development, support SPED teachers, and ensure regulatory compliance across the continuum of services in an urban environment.

Qualifications

• Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities or Severe Disabilities).
• Massachusetts License in School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor.
• Massachusetts License in School Psychologist.
• Massachusetts License in Speech-Language Pathology.
• Knowledge of DESE Regulations, IDEA, and Section 504.
• Three years of successful experience in an urban school system or urban human service setting.
• Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field (preferred).
• BPS values linguistic diversity; fluency in one official language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support the improvement of student outcomes and strengthen family engagement.
• Coordinate the continuum of services for students with disabilities and those at risk.
• Chair all IEP and 504 meetings; develop and align IEPs and 504 plans.
• Collaborate with Principal/Head of School to ensure FAPE and LRE.
• Provide professional development and support for SPED staff and related service providers.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal SPED regulations and reporting.
