Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle, WA seeks a senior embedded software engineer to define avionics software requirements and verification plans for lunar programs. You will collaborate with systems, hardware, and software teams and mentor staff to ensure robust software for space missions.

Responsibilities include setting direction for requirements, verification, and test cases; guiding cross-disciplinary teams; and ensuring safety-critical software is properly certified for flight missions.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field.
• 8 years professional experience minimum.
• Experience developing software requirements, verification plans, and test cases.
• Experience reviewing software architecture, design, and code.
• Experience working across systems and software disciplines, leading cross functional groups.
• Experience in spacecraft design and operations.
• Experience with safety critical software and software certification per NPR 7150.2D, DO-178, or related standard.

Responsibilities

• Define software requirements for avionics components with systems engineers, hardware responsible engineers, developers, and program managers.
• Train, guide, and mentor team members on software systems engineering best practices.
• Set direction and goals for the team regarding requirements, verification events, and test cases.
• Manage hardware-software integration problems and collaborate across vehicle and mission design teams.
• Deeply understand safety-critical software development processes and ensure proper capture of software behavior for safe missions.
