Job summary

Planet is seeking a Senior Flight Software Engineer to lead ongoing development, verification, and on-orbit anomaly escalation for the Superdove satellite platform. You will collaborate with RF/EE/FPGA teams and translate system requirements into robust software that operates from the ground to orbit.

You will drive design improvements, optimize efficiency, and ensure seamless hardware/software integration across Mission Control, telemetry, and observability tooling in a fast-paced, data-driven

Qualifications

• Experience with Ubuntu and/or Debian distributions of Linux.
• Embedded C with or without an RTOS, preferably on STM32.
• C and C++ application code on UNIX/Linux.
• Knowledge of Python 3 and Python 2.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Software/Aerospace/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop improved software systems for the Superdove spacecraft.
• Identify opportunities for efficiency and productivity gains, and implement them.
• Work with FSW experts to deeply learn how existing systems work, gather ideas for improvements, plan long-term projects, and deliver value.
• Build automated testing to increase confidence in Flight Software quality.
• Collaborate with Missions Systems, Satellite Operations, Satellite Security, and Ground Station teams to meet customer needs.
• Partner with Manufacturing to streamline satellite builds and system integration.
