Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Flight Software Engineer for the Mars Telecom Network. You will lead embedded avionics software development across the spacecraft lifecycle, delivering high-reliability systems in C/C++ for demanding missions.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, participate in technical reviews, and mentor engineers while driving mission-critical software through design, verification, and operations stages.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of embedded software development and testing experience including multi-threaded programming and real-time systems, particularly in C/C++.
• Experience in spacecraft development and operations, including proposals, system definition, design, production, integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, mission operations, and anomaly resolution.
• Experience working on multi-component, complex avionics for spacecraft, aircraft, or similar systems.
• Strong communication skills with program and executive leadership.
• Proven experience in requirement derivation, implementation, and verification.
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps processes and culture.
• Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships in a diverse team.
• U.S. citizenship or eligible status (citizenship/permanent resident or refugee status as applicable).

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for major embedded avionics software subsystems, providing direction and mentorship to engineers.
• Architect, design, develop, and deliver high-reliability, multi-threaded, real-time software in C and C++ for spacecraft avionics.
• Own software requirements derivation and verification planning with traceability from system requirements through verification.
• Work across the spacecraft lifecycle from proposals to on-orbit checkout and mission operations.
• Lead design and code reviews, ensuring technical quality and mission assurance across deliverables.
• Lead integration and test activities across multi-component avionics systems and perform root cause analysis of complex software anomalies.
• Communicate technical status and risks to program and executive leadership.
• Contribute to proposals and technical documentation as needed.
