Job summary

Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites, delivering data for commercial, environmental, and humanitarian use. The Senior Flight Software Engineer leads development and on-orbit anomaly escalation for the Superdove platform and collaborates with multiple teams to ensure reliable, scalable software on orbit.

Qualifications

• Experience with Ubuntu and/or Debian Linux distributions.
• Embedded C with or without RTOS, preferably on STM32.
• C and C++ application code on UNIX/Linux.
• Knowledge of Python 2 and Python 3.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Ability to use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, voltmeters).
• 6+ years designing and developing software systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop improved software systems for the Superdove spacecraft.
• Identify opportunities for efficiency and productivity gains, and implement them.
• Work with FSW experts to learn existing systems and plan long-term improvements.
• Build automated testing to increase confidence in software quality.
• Collaborate with Missions Systems, Satellite Operations, and other teams to meet customer needs.
• Partner with Manufacturing teams to streamline satellite builds and integration.
