Job summary

Blue Origin in Los Angeles is seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to design, implement, and verify embedded software for mission-critical spaceflight systems. You will work closely with avionics hardware engineers on BSPs, drivers, and low-level initialization for space hardware.

You will read hardware datasheets, assess performance tradeoffs, and debug in lab environments with logic analyzers, JTAGs, and oscilloscopes.

Qualifications

• BS in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of experience in embedded software.
• Strong embedded software design and development skills in C/C++/Rust with Linux (or similar) scripting experience.
• Strong debugging skills using cross HW/SW tools (GDB, XSDB, GRMON, Logic Analyzer, Protocol Analyzer, Wireshark).
• Strong background in computer architecture: memory buses, cache, DMA, CPU pipelines.
• Experience with Git.

Responsibilities

• Develop BSP software for new hardware, including driver development.
• Bare-metal or OS-level programming for hardware initialization and data processing.
• Hands-on debugging with avionics hardware using test gear.
• Participate in design reviews, balancing HW/SW partitioning.
• Benchmark hardware performance and optimize code.
• Bring up HW accelerators in modern SoC devices (encoders, decoders, image processing).
• Develop embedded SW for interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, TCP/IP, UDP, SpaceWire, Aurora, AXI, AMBA).
• Create boot and fault-tolerance strategies for software.
