Qualifications

• Advanced training beyond high school with an accredited or approved program in Sonography.
• Typically requires 2 years of experience in a Sonographer role.
• Proficiency in general and vascular sonography and ability to differentiate normal from pathologic findings.

Responsibilities

• Operates ultrasound equipment to perform general, vascular and/or cardiac studies and differentiates normal vs pathologic findings.
• Reviews patient records, labs, and orders to ensure exam accuracy.
• Positions patient, selects transducer, and adjusts factors for accurate images; ensures safety and comfort.
• Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and adapt procedures based on anatomy and diagnostic needs.
• Labels images with patient name, MRU number, and scan location.
• Enters patient/study information into the radiology information system and documents billing codes.
• Identifies equipment issues and evaluates new products for potential use.
• Analyzes sonograms and communicates findings to the physician.
• Serves as a resource and preceptor for students and staff.
• Participates in quality improvement and accreditation activities.
• Provides age-appropriate care and adheres to department policies.
