Job summary

BECU is seeking a Principal Solutions Engineer to shape the lending and credit card tech ecosystem. You will bridge architecture and engineering, delivering scalable, secure solutions that enhance member experiences.

You’ll mentor teams, lead modernization, and drive enterprise-wide initiatives across Azure and modern distributed systems. Qualified candidates will have 10+ years in IT, expertise in financial products, and a strong background in API design, UX, and cloud technologies.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a computer science or equivalent work experience required.
• Advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of information technology experience with demonstrated expertise in application design required.
• Experience with Financial products, i.e., Credit Card, Mortgage, Loan, Deposits, etc., required.
• Demonstrated experience in consumer financial products with expertise in UX, integration, and API layer required.
• Experience with public cloud (Azure/AWS/Google Cloud) technologies including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS offerings required.
• Experience leading and collaborating with multiple teams for enterprise-wide initiatives, including business unit teams, to deliver solutions through all aspects of the SDLC required.

Responsibilities

• Lead Solution Design: Design and deliver complex, enterprise-scale solutions that support lending and credit card platforms while aligning technical strategy with business objectives.
• Architect for Scale: Translate business and stakeholder needs into detailed technical designs, ensuring performance, security, reliability, and scalability.
• Drive Modernization: Identify opportunities to simplify complex systems, improve platform architecture, and introduce modern engineering practices.
• Shape Cloud-First Solutions: Lead the design of cloud-ready financial solutions, leveraging modern architectures, integrations, and services.
• Partner Across Teams: Collaborate with architects, engineers, delivery teams, infrastructure partners, and business stakeholders to drive execution.
• Guide API and Integration Strategy: Design, develop, and troubleshoot APIs and enterprise integrations.
• Support Production Excellence: Analyze production challenges, identify root causes, and lead efforts to improve stability.
• Build Innovative Solutions: Create prototypes and proofs-of-concepts for complex business challenges.
• Influence Technical Direction: Recommend solutions that improve member experiences and business outcomes.
• Mentor and Elevate Others: Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the organization.
• Champion Industry Best Practices: Stay current on emerging technologies and engineering practices.
• Communicate with Impact: Present technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
