Job summary

The City of Lompoc is seeking a qualified professional to lead the Solid Waste Division in regulatory compliance, planning, and program administration. You will oversee staff, analyze data, prepare reports, and coordinate grants and contracts to support waste reduction and recycling initiatives.

This role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three years of progressive experience in solid waste programs, with a strong grasp of relevant laws and public outreach strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or closely related field and 3 years of progressive related experience.
• Experience in solid waste recycling, diversion, or compliance programs preferred.
• Ability to interpret federal, state, and local regulations and prepare clear reports.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local solid waste laws and regulations.
• Plan, supervise, and evaluate staff within the Solid Waste Division.
• Analyze data to assess effectiveness of collection, diversion, and recycling programs.
• Prepare technical and narrative reports for regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
• Develop grants, contracts, and manage vendor proposals and grants administration.
• Oversee landfill permit updates and emissions compliance.
• Deliver public education campaigns on waste reduction and recycling.
• Represent the City at meetings and inspections.
