Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. You will lead features, enhancements, and bug fixes across the search stack, focusing on speed and relevance for vector search capabilities.

You will collaborate with a globally distributed team, contribute to design decisions, and write idiomatic Java as the primary language. This role emphasizes autonomy and high-impact delivery in a distributed environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with search or vector databases and relevant algorithms.
• Strong Java knowledge and concurrency concepts.
• Ability to work autonomously and guide projects end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to deliver industry-leading search with speed and relevance.
• Build new features, fix bugs, and simplify code; sometimes invent data structures.
• Collaborate with globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Be an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance and drive improvements.
• Review community issues and PRs, triage or handle them as needed.
• Write idiomatic modern Java; Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java!
