Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team. You will drive vector similarity search features, design new algorithms, and ensure high-performance search across distributed systems.

You will lead a globally distributed team, collaborate with engineers across regions, and mentor others while writing idiomatic Java and contributing to open source practices.

Qualifications

• Experience with vector similarity and vector databases at scale.
• Strong core Java skills and knowledge of data structures and concurrency.
• Ability to drive projects end-to-end in a distributed team.
• Experience with open source projects and asynchronous collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce a leading vector database offering.
• Build new search features and fix bugs; implement new algorithms when needed.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Serve as expert on Elasticsearch vector similarity and provide guidance to others.
• Engage with community via issues and pull requests and triage where needed.
• Write idiomatic modern Java.
