Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. You will contribute to technical direction, design and implement new search features, and resolve complex bugs to enhance search speed and relevance.

The role involves collaborating with a distributed team across continents, writing fast, scalable, and intuitive software, and contributing to vector search capabilities in Elasticsearch.

Qualifications

• Experience in search or vector databases; know HNSW, IVF, or similar algorithms.
• Solid Java skills and knowledge of data structures and concurrency.
• Able to lead projects end-to-end and guide engineering efforts.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to deliver industry-leading search engine capabilities.
• Build new search features and fix bugs; implement new algorithms when needed.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focusing on vector search tech.
• Advise on Elasticsearch search relevance, driving improvements based on data and instincts.
• Engage with open source communities; triage issues and participate in PRs.
• Write idiomatic modern Java code (Elasticsearch is Java).
