Job summary

Defense Unicorns is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to work on open source products. You’ll collaborate with product managers, designers, and end users to build the right solutions—and to build them well.

You’ll lead design, implementation, and deployment of features, ensuring secure interoperability with defense systems and contributing to the ecosystem. Remote-US with multi-team mentorship and a strong focus on open source.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building software tools focused on lifecycle and management.
• Proficient in Go; proficiency in other modern languages is a plus.
• Strong understanding of system design, APIs, and cloud architectures (AWS/Azure).
• Experience contributing to Open Source Projects (CNCF/ASF/OpenSSF is a plus).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and end users to design, implement, and deploy features and systems.
• Engage with open source communities and industry partners to drive projects forward.
• Develop documentation, design specifications, user manuals, and maintenance guides.
• Mentor engineers and elevate engineering standards across the team.
• Interface with defense systems ensuring secure interoperability and compliance.
