Job summary

Defense Unicorns is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the founding team of a new product capability, building from the ground up as part of the UDS Data team. You will own the full arc from customer conversations to production code, mentoring peers and working across the stack in an evolving tech landscape.

You’ll collaborate with product leadership and defense customers, deploying in open and restricted environments, with a focus on platform capabilities, security, and scalable data

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience shipping production systems.
• Proficiency in Go and/or Rust; Python for tooling is a plus.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes—operators, CRDs, controllers, network policies.
• Experience with distributed systems concepts—consistency, replication, failure modes.
• Solid testing discipline: unit, integration, end-to-end tests.
• Strong communication and documentation skills—ADR/design docs/runbooks.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, delivery, and production quality end-to-end—from architecture to deployment.
• Build and maintain open source infrastructure for airgap and cloud-native environments.
• Write comprehensive tests at every level and enforce standards.
• Collaborate with product and customers to translate problems into platform capabilities.
• Develop technical docs including ADRs and runbooks.
• Mentor engineers and uphold engineering standards in a remote team.
• Operate effectively in an asynchronous, fully remote environment.
