Job summary

Johnson & Johnson’s Orthopaedics division, DePuy Synthes, seeks a Senior Software Engineer for Infrastructure R&D in Boston. You will lead development of high-performance on-device medical software that securely connects to cloud for telemetry, remote diagnostics, and over-the-air updates, working with cross-functional teams to deliver safe patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field is required.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience is required.
• Strong proficiency in full-stack C#/.NET development and core CS fundamentals.
• Experience with multi-threaded/concurrent programming and database read/write operations.
• Hands-on experience with embedded Windows targets and IoT device connectivity.
• Regulated development experience (IEC 62304, FDA guidance) and CI/CD awareness.
• Ability to work in Boston and travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Build production-grade on-device applications and services in C#/.NET for Windows targets, integrating with clinical apps and cloud services.
• Work with relational/embedded databases; design schemas and optimize SQL queries.
• Develop multi-threaded components and RESTful data services with scalable architecture.
• Design secure device-to-cloud connectivity and authentication patterns.
• Apply secure coding practices for cybersecurity and patient safety (TLS, device identity, secure storage).
• Develop cloud-backed backends in Azure or similar for telemetry and fleet operations.
• Advance software quality via tests, profiling, observability, and CI/CD.
• Contribute to regulatory documentation and support FDA submissions as needed.
• Collaborate in Agile/Scrum, mentor engineers, lead design/code reviews.
