Job summary

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Staff Software Engineer, R&D, to design and develop software for DePuy Synthes orthopaedic capital equipment. The role covers embedded C/C++ and Python, with responsibility for architecture, verification, and regulatory alignment.

Based in Raynham, MA or Palm Beach Gardens, FL, you will lead cross-functional teams, ensure safety and compliance, and drive software lifecycle activities through release and post-market support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of relevant experience; or 6+ with Master’s; 4+ with PhD.
• Strong software development in C and C++ and Python for automation, testing, tooling, or product features.
• Experience with embedded microcontroller systems, bare-metal and RTOS-based development.
• Experience with embedded Linux, device drivers, services, and application-level software.
• Experience with hardware/software integration and low-level debugging.
• Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded software architecture, design, development, integration, and verification for medical device applications.
• Develop production software in C/C++ and Python with hands-on leadership.
• Translate requirements into scalable software architectures and development plans.
• Drive all phases of the software development lifecycle from requirements to post-market support.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including systems, electrical, mechanical, cybersecurity, quality, and regulatory engineering.
• Manage external vendors and partners to ensure quality and delivery timelines.
• Mentor internal and external software contributors and represent software in design reviews and regulatory submissions.
