Job summary

Socket.dev is hiring a senior software engineer to own production systems across embedded, cloud, and data pipelines for defense technology products. You design, build, and deploy end-to-end software and work with hardware and systems engineers to meet reliability and security needs.

You will mentor juniors, lead design reviews, define SLOs, observe systems, and drive incident response while raising the team’s technical bar through reviews and shared standards.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering with ownership of production systems.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and systems design.
• Fluency in at least one: Python, Go, Rust, C/C++, or TypeScript with ability to learn new languages.
• Experience designing and maintaining distributed systems or service-oriented architectures.
• Strong debugging instincts and methodical problem solving.
• Proficient English, written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own core software systems end-to-end from architecture to production deployment.
• Write clean, testable, well-documented code for cross-team use.
• Lead technical design reviews; identify failure modes before production.
• Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, and systems engineers to respect constraints.
• Own reliability: define SLOs, build observability, respond to incidents, drive RCAs.
• Hire and mentor junior engineers; raise technical bar through code review and standards.
