Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the LEAP team within the MacCready Works segment. You will develop and optimize video processing and perception pipelines for low-SWaP processors (Nvidia Xavier/Orin) and integrate into maritime vessels and unmanned systems.

The role emphasizes C++ development, testing, documentation, and collaboration with customers and external developers. A DoD-appropriate ITAR/compliance posture is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in CS/Engineering/Math/Physics.
• 5–8 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ with data structures and OO design.
• Experience with CMake and modern C++ build systems.
• Proficiency in Python for tooling, scripting, and prototyping.
• Experience with Ubuntu and/or CentOS Linux.
• Experience with writing unit tests and debugging code.
• DDS, gRPC, and Rust experience is preferred.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with Git and IDEs/debuggers.
• Ability to collaborate with external developers and customers.

Responsibilities

• Implement and optimize computer vision and perception algorithms in C++ for low-SWaP embedded processors.
• Support testing and demonstration of components and integrated systems.
• Develop documentation, technical reports, and customer-facing inputs.
• Create software design docs per established processes and guidance from senior engineers.
• Write code following standards, develop tests, and contribute to process improvements.
• Deliver work on time within project schedules and budgets.
• Assist algorithm design from detailed software requirements.
• Collaborate with other software developers to reuse software across programs.
• Mentor less-experienced engineers and work under moderate supervision.
• Analyze problems with a broad view of factors and build internal/external relationships.
