Job summary

REI in Seattle is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support scalable platform services powering membership experiences across digital and retail channels. You will partner with Product, Architecture, UX, and Engineering to deliver business value while advancing platform modernization.

You will mentor engineers, lead complex solutions, and contribute to on-call incident response, data and event-driven integrations, and security-focused practices to strengthen reliability

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressively complex software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting APIs, integrations, event-driven systems, and distributed applications using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and cloud-native platforms.
• Experience building and supporting applications in AWS or similar cloud environments with CI/CD and production support.
• Understanding of API design, event-driven patterns, scalability, resiliency, and security.
• Ability to collaborate across Product, UX, Security, Architecture, and Engineering teams.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain cloud-native services and integrations supporting the Membership Platform.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate requirements into scalable, secure designs.
• Lead delivery of complex technical solutions spanning multiple systems and teams.
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, security, observability, and operations.
• Mentor and coach engineers through reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
• Deliver data, event-driven, and service integrations across the technology ecosystem.
• Participate in Agile planning, delivery, and on-call incident response.
• Evaluate and support AI-enabled capabilities while ensuring security and privacy.
