Job summary

Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) is seeking a Staff Engineer in Seattle to drive end-to-end architecture for highly scalable systems.

You will mentor engineers, own major initiatives, and guide incident response as part of a cross-functional engineering organization. You will collaborate with Product, Research, and Analytics to translate business needs into robust designs, with focus on performance, reliability, and security across search and data pipelines.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development with Java
• Experience across full SDLC incl. code reviews, source control, build, testing and operations
• 3+ years of experience with E-Commerce Search technologies and related middle-tier services
• Strong knowledge of search engines and indexing services
• Proven mentoring and leadership of engineers
• Experience with SAAS vendors and enterprise tooling

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product, Research and Technology partners to gather, analyze, and translate business and non-functional requirements into a solution architecture and design.
• Lead and support assigned teams to design, develop, implement, document, and maintain features, applications or system components on moderately to highly complex assignments.
• Participate or lead team ceremonies, deliver, and support features and services in line with agile expectations.
• Propose new solutions, ideas, tools, and techniques for moderately complex problems.
• Mentor junior engineers via pairing, design review, and code review.
